Fabricadabra - A Story, A Person, A Culture, Behind Every Fiber

It's no secret that I love a great throw pillow so when a company is able to take that pillow and make it a fun, non-toxic, ethically sourced and affordable product I'm on board. Fabricadabra creates and sells decorative pillow inserts that are filled with kapok and have an organic cotton shell. They are constructed in the United States and are a healthier and environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic, feather and down pillow inserts. For those who have never heard of kapok, it is mold, mildew and dust mite resistant, completely renewable, grown without pesticides, light as air and odorless.

Along with the decorative pillow inserts, Fabricadabra also offers a line of decorative pillow covers that are all made from natural fibers using natural or low impact dyes. Most of the covers are handwoven and naturally dyed. They also carry some pillow covers made from vintage fabrics and some that which are digitally printed on organic cottons.

Happy Weekend!

I've been having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after my fantastic vacation. Getting my body used to EST again is taking longer than I thought. At least I slept until 5 am today, that's a lot better than 3 am. I've also been in a bit of a funk following my return. Northern New Jersey is just a little less fabulous than Milos, Greece. I just have to keep reminding myself that one day I'll have my own little home there and will be able to spend more than 2 weeks on the island. Though it is not something that will happen in the next few years, it something to dream about and plan for.

This weekend I'm planning a few activities that will help remind me that I really do love living in the neighborhood that I do. First stop will be the farmers market to pick last goodies that summer has to offer and stare at all of the beautiful stone fruits (allergies, poo). A trip to Target might also be in order. There are no Targets in Greece, tragic.

What do you have planned for the weekend? Why not plan a few activities close to home that remind you of the simple pleasures?

Update: Well buggers, I neglected to check the weather forecast before making my weekend plans. At least the rainy weather will keep me inside and force me to finish up my flooring project. Though trips to Home Depot in the rain might not be so fun.

Home Tour: Lara Bobo from Enid

This is my very first home tour so I hope you enjoy it. The voyeur in me loves to get a peak inside the homes of creative individuals and young business owners. Today's home tour is that of Tim and Lara Bobo, the owners of the home and lifestyle shop Enid in Fredericksburg, TX.

Enid Shop

I was first introduced to the Enid shop through Twitter and immediately fell in love with it. In addition to being a brick and mortar shop in Texas, Enid also an online shop that is full of fun and fabulous personal and home accessories. I love the story behind the name of the shop almost as much as the items contained within it. The shop is named after Lara's grandmother, Enid Collins, a handbag and accessory designer of the 50s, 60, and 70s. Lara describes Enid as the perfect name for the shop because her tastes are so inspired by her grandmother's wonderful creativity and sense of style.

Laura Bobo from Enid - Kitchen

I first got a glimpse of Lara and Tim's colorful home after writing my last
color combination post. Lara sent me a link to her loft with it's bold turqouise paint floors and I new I had to see more. Lara is certainly not afraid of color but has the ability to make her bold color combinations come together effortlessly.

Laura Bobo from Enid - Living Room

Lara and Tim moved into our house this past December, after spending about a year building it. They did a lot of the work ourselves, since Tim has a background in construction. Lara's husband Tim also made all of the wood and metal side tables and coffee table with his own two hands. A selection of handmade of these tables can be found at the Enid shop. Custom tables are also available, you can find more information about them
here.

Laura Bobo from Enid - Bedroom

The bedroom continues the theme of a playful marrige of color but is more subdued and peaceful than some of the other rooms in the house. That gray wall color is perfection.

Laura Bobo from Enid - Bathroom

Take some time to browse through the Enid shop, I'm sure you'll find more than a few things you like. Right now there is a huge selection of sale items in the shop and on the website. And for the cherry on top, currently everything ships from the website for a flat rate of $8 anywhere in the contiguous United States.

A few weeks ago I mentioned I was working on a guest post for one of my favorite bloggers. Today my post in up on Decor8 and it's quite exciting. Holly is such an inspiration to me and I've learned so much from her by following her blog, taking her e-course, and now just counting her as one of my most fun and silly web friends. Any time she needs a hand I'm more than happy to drop what I'm doing and chip in. Which is why I was super excited when she asked that I participate in her "Favorite Things" series that is running on Decor8 while she gets settled in Germany. Amy Butler Handcrafted Rugs for Chandra

Hello folks, did you miss me? I must apologize for my abrupt disappearance. I left for my fantastic Greek holiday without saying goodbye. I had big plans of setting up posts to run while I was away but unfortunately life got in the way. I thought I would be able to give you updates of my trip while I was away but instead I ignored my laptop completely and I must admit it was nice. I'm home now and fully invigorated from my trip (actually I'm still on Greece time and pretty exhausted) so I should be back in my groove soon.

Are you ready to drool, pine, covet, and so on? Amy Butler has created the most gorgeous hand-tufted rugs for Chandra based on her fabric and bedding designs. The rugs are handmade, hand carved, and hand cut from 100% New Zealand wool and they are fabulous. Have a look, you're going to die, I swear they are that gorgeous.

The rugs are available in 5' x 7' 6" and 7' 9" x 10' 6". There are 19 rugs in the collection - 13 designs, six of which are colored in two colorways. I'm more than a little bummed that I already purchased a rug for my living room because the Morning Glory print would have been absolutely perfect.

What do you think? Amazing, are they not? Check out Amy Butler's site to see all 19 designs.
